Norway vs. Ivory Coast - Pure Football Analysis (glm-5.2)
2026 World Cup, Round of 32 (Match 78) | June 30, 2026 | AT&T Stadium, Arlington TX (roof CLOSED)
Kickoff: 19:00 CEST (12:00 local CDT) | Referee: Jesús Valenzuela (Venezuela, CONMEBOL)
TL;DR
Coin-flip knockout that the WDM says leans CIV — NOR's €400M squad is almost entirely attack (Haaland/Ødegaard), but their leaky 7-GA defense meets CIV's 2-GA block + counter pace = the CONMEBOL-reactive-blueprint trap that sank GER and NED. CIV advance 53%.
- fav_share 0.602 (< 0.65) → deviation cap active. NOR's squad-value edge is exactly the blind spot that produced the NED-MAR and GER-PAR upsets. Don't over-adjust to the favorite.
- Defense decides it. NOR conceded 7 (demolished 4-1 by FRA); CIV conceded 2 (only GER scored). GDiff favors CIV (+2 vs +1). The goals factor is clean here — all group games complete, no leakage.
- NOR has the finisher (Haaland, 4G, 12-game streak); CIV has the block + transition (Amad/Diomandé + Kessié's mid-block). Sterile-domination screen does NOT fire for NOR (proven finisher), but CONMEBOL-reactive cap applies to CIV's shape.
- Both managers in max-output mode — R16 reward is Brazil; no conservation logic for either side. Haaland milestone = 0% NOR conservation. F11 neutralized (closed roof).
- Valenzuela lenient (1-3Y, 0R) but 30-40% pen band favors NOR (Haaland box threat + CIV physical mids) — the one live +delta toward the cap.
Prediction: 1-1 (14%), CIV 2-1 (12%), CIV 1-0 (11%), NOR 2-1 (10%), NOR 1-0 (8%)
90' outcomes: NOR 34% / Draw 25% / CIV 41% → Advance: CIV 53% / NOR 47%
Watch: whether CIV's Kossounou–Agbadou CB pair survives Haaland's diagonal runs without needing Kessié/Sangaré tactical fouls — that's the foul/card/pen hinge that decides if CIV's block holds or Valenzuela points to the spot.
1. Norway 🇳🇴 — Team Profile
Basic Info
- FIFA Ranking: ~28 (NOR share 0.526 vs CIV 0.474 — NOR higher-ranked)
- Manager: Ståle Solbakken (58, since Dec 2020) — aggressive-vertical, Haaland focal, elite set-piece delivery (80.8% cross acc, 3rd in WC26)
- WC History: First knockout qualification since 1998; 3rd WC appearance. Tournament Tier 1.5 (rising).
- Form (WC26 group): W4-1 IRQ · W3-2 SEN · L1-4 FRA (10-man rotation B-team). 6pts, 2nd in Group I. GF 8 / GA 7 (+1 GD).
- Squad value: €400M (concentrated in Haaland/Ødegaard/Sørloth attack; defense is mid-tier).
- Base camp: UNCG, Greensboro NC (FieldTurf — same surface as AT&T).
Tactical Identity (4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3)
- Vertical-progressive. Haaland as press-anchor and focal; Ødegaard with AM license in the half-spaces; Berg/Berge double-pivot shields.
- Elite set-piece delivery (Ødegaard corners — Østigård scored unmarked MD1) is a primary weapon, Plan B to the Haaland diagonal.
- High press; not a low-block team. Compact mid-block out of possession.
Key Players
| Player | Club | Position | Profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Erling Haaland | Man City | CF | 4 WC goals, 12-game intl streak, milestone-motivated, rested MD3, clinical |
| Martin Ødegaard | Arsenal | AM (cap) | Creator > scorer; set-piece taker; assist profile (Finding 10) |
| Alexander Sørloth | Atlético | RW/2nd striker | Transition finisher, aerial edge |
| Antonio Nusa | RB Leipzig | LW | "Revelation" cutting in from left |
| Sander Berge | Fulham | DM | Industry; Berg partnership protects back four |
| Ørjan Nyland | Sevilla | GK | Confirmed #1 (returns from MD3 bench); not a hot-GK profile |
Strengths / Weaknesses
- ✅ Generational finisher (Haaland), elite creator (Ødegaard), 3rd-highest scoring attack in WC26 (8G)
- ✅ Set-piece weapon (80.8% cross acc); fresh legs (10-man MD3 rotation)
- ✅ FieldTurf surface familiarity (AT&T = same as UNCG base)
- ❌ Leaky defense: 7 GA in 3 group games, demolished 4-1 by FRA — squad value is attack-weighted, doesn't reflect this
- ❌ Ryerson (RB) out — Holmgren Pedersen is more attack-minded, right flank exposed in transition
- ❌ Only Tier-1 test = a 4-1 loss; unproven vs organized mid-block + counter pace
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1)
Nyland; Holmgren Pedersen, Ajer, Heggem, Møller Wolfe; Berge, P. Berg; Ødegaard (c); Nusa, Sørloth, Haaland.
2. Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 — Team Profile
Basic Info
- FIFA Ranking: ~13-15 area (CIV share 0.474; AFCON champions Jan 2025)
- Manager: Emerse Faé (41, English-born Ivorian) — AFCON 2025 winner; tactically flexible; pragmatic-but-attack-capable
- WC History: 3rd WC appearance; first-ever WC knockout match (historic motivation). Tournament Tier 2.
- Form (WC26 group): W1-0 ECU · L1-2 GER · W2-0 CUR (Pépé brace). 6pts, 2nd in Group E. GF 4 / GA 2 (+2 GD).
- Squad value: €180M.
- Base camp: Subaru Park, Philadelphia (grass).
Tactical Identity (4-3-3, mid-block + transitions)
- Mid-block 4-3-3 with quick wing transitions. Sangaré–Kessié–Oulaï = physical ball-winning three.
- Amad/Diomandé wide creators; Bonny as channel-running #9. Pépé veteran RW finishing touch.
- Counter-attack specialists (Amad MD1 90' winner off bench). Set-piece danger via Kessié headers + Doué overlaps.
- This is the CONMEBOL-reactive-blueprint analog (R32-3): mid/low block + counter pace + in-form defense + solid GK.
Key Players
| Player | Club | Position | Profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Franck Kessié | Al-Ahli | CM (cap) | Physical leader, set-piece header threat, SPL/Valenzuela familiarity |
| Ibrahim Sangaré | Nottm Forest | CM | Ball-winner, transition trigger |
| Nicolas Pépé | Villarreal | RW | Veteran, MD3 brace MOTM, one-good-moment profile |
| Ange-Yoan Bonny | Inter | CF | Physical #9, runs channels vs Ajer/Heggem |
| Yan Diomandé | RB Leipzig | LW | 19yo, MD1 MOTM assist, LFC-linked, finishing-drought risk |
| Yahia Fofana | Çaykur Rizespor | GK | Confirmed #1; 2 GA in 3gp (back-four driven, not hot-GK); distribution weakness |
| Amad Diallo | Man Utd | RW/LW | Impact sub (Faé pattern from MD1) — 25-30min from 60' |
Strengths / Weaknesses
- ✅ Best defense in the matchup: 2 GA in 3gp (only GER scored); Kossounou–Agbadou organized
- ✅ Counter-pace (Amad/Diomandé), physical midfield three, set-piece headers
- ✅ Faé is an elite tournament operator (AFCON 2025); historic-first motivation
- ✅ Entire squad available (Maxifoot: "l'intégralité de son groupe")
- ❌ Yahia Fofana's distribution under pressure = NOR high-press trigger point
- ❌ Limited attacking ceiling (4 GF) — reliant on counters/set-pieces, not sustained creation
- ❌ Maiden WC KO; no scar tissue but also no template for managing a KO lead at this level
Predicted XI (4-3-3)
Y. Fofana; G. Doué, Kossounou, Agbadou, Konan; Sangaré, Kessié (c), Oulaï; Pépé, Bonny, Y. Diomandé.
3. Head-to-Head Record
| Date | Competition | Result |
|---|---|---|
| — | FIFA World Cup | 0-0-0 (first-ever WC meeting) |
| — | All competitions | 0–1 (maiden competitive meeting) |
First-ever senior meeting between Norway and Ivory Coast. No H2H psychological edge; pure form + squad quality + tactical fit applies. (Source: Wikipedia "Norway at the FIFA World Cup" opponent table, confirmed 30 Jun 2026.)
4. 🌡️ Physical & Environmental Conditions (Finding 11)
| Factor | Value | Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Roof status | CLOSED (AT&T retractable, fixed-closed for WC26) | F11 weather penalty NEUTRALIZED |
| Indoor temp | ~21°C / 70°F (climate-controlled) | Below 28°C threshold — no heat degradation |
| Outdoor temp (context only) | 87°F/31°C, heat index 101°F (NWS KGPM, 11:15 CDT Jun 30) | Irrelevant to 90'; warm-up/tunnel exposure only |
| Humidity (indoor) | ~45-50% | Neutral |
| Wind | 0 mph (enclosed) | None |
| Surface | FieldTurf | NOR surface-familiarity edge (UNCG base = FieldTurf); +1pt minor |
Impact Analysis
- F11 = 0. Roof closed + AC = neutral conditions. Do NOT apply the >28°C pressing-degradation rule (it requires exposure, which doesn't exist indoors). This was correctly neutralized at the same venue for ENG-CRO, NED-SWE, ARG-AUT.
- No same-day travel penalty — both teams established at base camps; NOR regional (NC→TX), CIV (PA→TX), both domestic US flights, not intercontinental.
- Surface edge: minor +1pt NOR (FieldTurf familiarity). Not a travel/energy penalty; a finishing/traction micro-edge only.
- Fresh legs both sides: NOR rotated 10 in MD3; CIV subbed Pépé at 67' in MD3 explicitly to rest for today. Neither carries fatigue debt into the knockout.
5. Referee Analysis — Jesús Valenzuela (Venezuela, CONMEBOL)
| Statistic | Career | Tournament Discounted (×0.30) |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow cards/game | 5.0 (FootyMetrics 88 matches) | ~1.50 Y/gm |
| WC26 sample | 1.50 Y/gm (AUS-TUR, BIH-QAT) | Modal 2 yellows today |
| Red cards/game | 0.24 career | ~0 reds (4/4 prior WC matches = zero reds) |
| Penalties/game | 0.25 career (1 in 4 WC matches — Lewandowski via VAR 2022) | 30-40% band for ≥1 pen |
| Conflicts | CONMEBOL; NOR=UEFA, CIV=CAF | ✅ None |
Match application:
- Tournament-lenient on cards (×0.30 discount confirmed in WC26 sample). Expect 1-3 yellows (modal 2), 0 reds.
- Card leniency ≠ pen leniency (Finding 7, validated Penso CAN-QAT): Valenzuela is a willing spot-pointer (Lewandowski precedent via VAR). Present pen chance as a 30-40% band, NOT a certainty (validated Al-Jassim POR-DRC: 0.40 rate → 0 pens).
- Most likely card recipients: CIV's physical midfield (Kessié/Sangaré/Oulaï) — tactical-foul risk if Haaland runs clear.
- Confederation-sympathy asymmetry: Valenzuela has 9 SPL matches; Kessié (Al-Ahli) familiarity, not bias.
Prediction: 2 yellows, 0 reds, 30-40% penalty chance (≥1). Slight NOR tilt via pen band + Haaland box threat.
6. Key Tactical Battles
6.1 Haaland vs Kossounou–Agbadou
The matchup that decides the match. Haaland's diagonal runs (Solbakken's signature) are designed to drag the higher CB (Kossounou) out of line and expose the channel. CIV's CB pair kept GER to 2 (only Tier-1 test) — they are organized and athletic. If Haaland is isolated 1v1 he wins; if Kossounou–Agbadou double and force Haaland wide, CIV's block holds and Sangaré/Kessié sweep the second balls. CIV's foul discipline here is the pen/card hinge.
6.2 CIV's mid-block + counter vs NOR's high press
This is the CONMEBOL-reactive-blueprint (R32-3) vs UEFA-possession trap. CIV sit in a mid-block, absorb, and spring Amad/Diomandé/Bonny on the transition. NOR press high with Haaland as anchor — but high press leaves the right channel (Holmgren Pedersen is attack-minded, replacing injured Ryerson) exposed. NOR conceded 7 partly because the press gets bypassed; CIV is built to bypass it.
6.3 Set-pieces — both elite
NOR: 80.8% crossing accuracy, Ødegaard delivery, Østigård scored unmarked MD1 (Finding 6 CB set-piece). CIV: Kessié headers + Doué overlaps. At a closed-roof venue with two strong set-piece teams, a dead-ball goal is a live ~25-30% contributor. CB/CM set-piece scorer must be in Who Scores (Finding 6).
6.4 Amad Diallo impact-sub pattern
Faé starts Amad on the bench (MD1 template — 90' winner as sub). NOR must plan for ~25-30 min Amad from 60'. Per Finding 18, bench creators convert more when level/leading; if CIV is level at 60', Amad is a genuine game-winner threat. NOR's bench (Strand Larsen, Bobb, Schjelderup) is deeper but faces CIV's set block — asymmetric bench impact.
6.5 Valenzuela pen band × Haaland box presence
30-40% pen chance × Haaland's penalty-box gravity = the single highest-leverage variable for NOR. A Valenzuela spot-kick (Haaland is a confirmed pen taker) is NOR's cleanest path to a goal against a block that concedes little from open play.
6.5. Decision Graph Resolution (doc-5 — walked independently)
Per TASK-99, I resolve all steps myself from doc-1 Findings + the briefs. Show reasoning + explicit numbers.
Step 0 — WDM Anchor (§6.6)
| Factor | NOR | CIV | NOR share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Squad value (×3) | €400M | €180M | 0.690 |
| FIFA rank (×1) | higher | lower | 0.526 |
| Form weighted (×1, R32-2) | 3.00 (W T3, W T2, L T1) | 3.00 (W T2, L T1, W T3) | 0.500 |
| Qualifying (×1) | stronger | weaker | 0.578 |
| GDiff (×0.5 minor, R32-5) | +1 | +2 | 0.478 |
score_nor = 3.0(0.690) + 1.0(0.526) + 1.0(0.500) + 1.0(0.578) + 0.5(0.478)
= 2.070 + 0.526 + 0.500 + 0.578 + 0.239 = 3.913
score_civ = 6.5 − 3.913 = 2.587
fav_share = 3.913 / 6.5 = 0.602
NOR baseline = 28 + (0.602 − 0.50) × 90 = 37%. Draw band (fav_share 0.60, moderate-favorite, R32-4) = 23%. WDM ANCHOR: NOR 37% / Draw 23% / CIV 40%. fav_share 0.602 < 0.65 → DEVIATION CAP +5pt active.
Step 1 — Group/Knockout context
- Knockout elimination game. No draw-suffices, no GD-chase. Both need to win in 90' or push to ET. No 3rd-place dynamics.
- R16 reward = BRAZIL (confirmed). Brutal path removes ALL "save for later" conservation logic. Both managers in max-output mode. No bracket-incentive to settle.
- No yellow-card suspension risk carrying in (R32 = clean slate for next round).
- Verdict: context is neutral-symmetric; no draw-tilt from context.
Step 2 — Conservation (Finding 12)
- NOR: Solbakken aggressive-when-stakes-high + Haaland milestone (12-game streak, Golden Boot chase, first NOR KO in 28 years) → F12 = 0% (milestone rule = no conservation, hard rule).
- CIV: Faé pragmatic-but-attack-capable, historic-first WC KO → no incentive to park; F12 = 0%.
- Empirical weight ×1.5 on conservation deltas — but the delta itself is 0, so 0 × 1.5 = 0.
- Verdict: 0% conservation for both. MD3 was the rest game for both (NOR rotated 10; CIV subbed Pépé 67'); fresh legs today.
Step 3 — Weather × style (Finding 11)
- Roof CLOSED, indoor 21°C, no wind. F11 heat threshold (>28°C degrades pressing by 60') does NOT fire — NOR's high press is uncompromised. F11 = 0.
Step 4 — Weather × defense stack
- Heat neutralized (Step 3), so no heat + low-block + hot-GK stack. But evaluate the defensive stack on its own:
- CIV hot-GK (Finding 4): Yahia Fofana conceded 2 in 3gp — solid, BUT this is back-four driven (Kossounou–Agbadou), not GK heroics. No tournament MOTMs, no WC shootout pedigree. Per empirical split: ×0.25 reputation-only multiplier. Base hot-GK draw tilt ~+5-10% → ×0.25 = +1-2% draw. Take from NOR (squad-value favorite).
- CONMEBOL-reactive blueprint (R32-3): CIV = mid-block 4-3-3 + counter pace (Amad/Diomandé) + in-form defense (2 GA) + solid GK. This is the template that sank GER-PAR and NED-MAR. Cap NOR advance at ~60% (already below cap) and apply a small +2% CIV nudge — the squad-value gap is the exact blind spot this finding corrects.
- Verdict: +2% draw (×0.25 hot-GK), +2% CIV (reactive blueprint), both taken from NOR.
Step 5 — Temperament
- Solbakken (NOR): aggressive-vertical, game-plan executability HIGH across all 3 group games. Discipline good (0Y MD3, 2Y MD2). Card risk moderate-low.
- Faé (CIV): pragmatic mid-block + transitions, executability HIGH (defended MD1 lead, held GER to 60'). Card risk moderate (physical midfield).
- Verdict: temperament neutral-symmetric. No additional tilt.
- Minor surface edge: NOR +1% on FieldTurf familiarity (from CIV).
Step 6 — Synthesis (show the math)
WDM ANCHOR: NOR 37 / D 23 / CIV 40
F12 conservation: ±0 (milestone + historic-first = 0 both)
F11 weather: ±0 (roof closed, neutralized)
F4 hot-GK (Fofana, ×0.25): +2 draw, −2 NOR (reputation-only, back-four driven)
R32-3 CONMEBOL reactive: +2 CIV, −2 NOR (CIV mid-block+counter+in-form D)
Surface (FieldTurf): +1 NOR, −1 CIV (minor)
─────────────────────────────────────────────
90' OUTCOME: NOR 34 / D 25 / CIV 41
Within deviation cap (NOR −3 from anchor 37 → 34; cap was +5 max, we're well inside). The honest resolution lands CIV as a slight 90' favorite — consistent with the WDM's own signal (which already favored CIV 40%) and reinforced by the reactive-blueprint correction. NOR's squad-value edge is real but is precisely the dimension the cap and the reactive-blueprint finding exist to discount.
7K. Knockout Prediction (§7K — decision tree)
fav_share 0.602 → draw band 20-25% (moderate-favorite KO). I sit at 25% — the upper end, justified by CIV's in-form block + Amad impact-sub pattern + NOR's leaky defense keeping games level.
90-Minute (Regulation) Outcome
| Outcome | Probability | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| CIV win in 90' | 41% | WDM anchor + reactive-blueprint nudge; CIV's 2-GA block + counter beats NOR's leaky 7-GA defense |
| Draw at 90' | 25% | Upper draw band — both score (NOR 8GF, CIV's block concedes little), set-pieces both ways, Amad ET weapon |
| NOR win in 90' | 34% | Haaland milestone + pen band + surface edge; capped by reactive blueprint |
Extra Time (conditional on draw at 90')
| Outcome | Cond. % | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| NOR win in ET | 33% | Deeper attacking bench (Strand Larsen, Bobb, Schjelderup); Haaland stays 120 |
| Draw after ET (→pens) | 40% | Tired legs blunt both presses; set-piece stalemate; neither GK is a shootout specialist |
| CIV win in ET | 27% | Amad impact-sub from 60' peaks in ET; Kessié set-piece header |
Penalty Shootout (conditional on pens reached)
| Outcome | Cond. % | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| NOR win on pens | 50% | No shootout pedigree either GK; coin-flip; Nyland marginally more experienced |
| CIV win on pens | 50% | Fofana has no shootout record; even |
Advance Probability (unconditional — show the math)
| Team | Advance % | Calculation |
|---|---|---|
| CIV | 53% | 41 (win90) + 25×0.27 (draw→CIV ET) + 25×0.40×0.50 (draw→ET draw→CIV pens) = 41 + 6.75 + 5.0 = 52.8 |
| NOR | 47% | 34 (win90) + 25×0.33 (draw→NOR ET) + 25×0.40×0.50 (draw→ET draw→NOR pens) = 34 + 8.25 + 5.0 = 47.3 |
Scoreline Distribution (90' only)
| Score | Probability | Scenario |
|---|---|---|
| 1-1 | 14% | Leading draw scoreline — both score (NOR attack delivers, CIV gets one vs leaky NOR D) |
| CIV 2-1 | 12% | CIV counters twice + holds off NOR; NOR gets one through Haaland/Ødegaard |
| CIV 1-0 | 11% | CIV block holds, Amad/Pépé one moment, NOR profligate |
| NOR 2-1 | 10% | Haaland brace or Haaland+set-piece; NOR leaks one to CIV counter |
| NOR 1-0 | 8% | Haaland/pen settles it; CIV blanked |
| 2-2 | 6% | Open second half, both attacks fire |
| CIV 2-0 | 6% | CIV defense dominant, NOR sterile in final third |
| Other | 33% | 0-0, 3-1 splits, late winners |
Modal Match Path
CIV 2-1 in 90' (12%) is the single most likely complete outcome — CIV's counter-pace (Amad/Pépé/Diomandé) scores twice against NOR's leaky 7-GA defense while NOR gets one through Haaland but cannot match CIV's defensive organization. The leading ET path is 1-1 at 90' → CIV win in ET (~7%) via Amad impact-sub.
8. Who Scores
Norway 🇳🇴
| Rank | Player | Position | Probability | Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Erling Haaland | CF | 30% | 4 WC goals, 12-game intl streak, milestone-motivated, rested MD3, clinical finisher, pen taker; sub risk LOW (Solbakken aggressive, Haaland plays 75-90') |
| 2 | Alexander Sørloth | RW/2nd striker | 13% | Transition finisher; benefits when CIV's block stretches chasing Haaland |
| 3 | Martin Ødegaard | AM | 10% | Creator > scorer (Finding 10) — ≥30% chance his contribution is an ASSIST to Haaland, not a goal; set-piece taker |
| 4 | Antonio Nusa | LW | 8% | Cutting in from left; "revelation" down the left per Solbakken |
| 5 | Kristoffer Ajer / Torbjørn Heggem | CB | 5% | Finding 6 CB set-piece — Østigård scored unmarked MD1 from Ødegaard corner; Ajer/Heggem repeat template |
Ivory Coast 🇨🇮
| Rank | Player | Position | Probability | Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ange-Yoan Bonny | CF | 14% | Physical #9 vs Ajer/Heggem; first good chance with back to goal; channel runs |
| 2 | Nicolas Pépé | RW | 13% | Veteran, MD3 brace MOTM; one-good-moment profile, cutting in |
| 3 | Yan Diomandé | LW | 10% | MD1 MOTM assist; LFC-bid confidence; 19yo finishing-drought risk caps upside |
| 4 | Amad Diallo | RW/LW (sub) | 9% | Impact sub from 60' (Faé pattern, MD1 90' winner) — Finding 18: higher weight when level/leading; classic ET/late weapon |
| 5 | Franck Kessié | CM | 8% | Set-piece header (Finding 6/20 CM variant) — Sangaré/Kossounou also live at corners; Kessié is the designated target |
| — | Late-arriving CM | — | 5% | Finding 19: low-event KO → deep runner/rotated-in mid (Oulaï/Sangaré arriving late) at ~5% |
9. Match Flow Projection
| Timeframe | Expected Pattern |
|---|---|
| 0-15' | NOR high press, Haaland testing Kossounou early; CIV mid-block absorbs, looks for Diomandé/Pépé outlets. Valenzuela lets physical challenges go (lenient). |
| 15-45' | NOR controls possession (~55%), Ødegaard probes half-spaces; CIV counters through Amad-adjacent channels (Pépé/Diomandé). A goal ~25-40' likely (both score — NOR 8GF, CIV leaks). Set-piece windows for both. |
| 45-60' | If level, CIV settles into compact block; NOR presses higher, risks right channel (Holmgren Pedersen). Pen-band window peaks (Haaland box presence). |
| 60-75' | Amad Diallo enters (Faé impact-sub template). Game opens if a team trails — bench impact becomes game-state-conditional (Finding 18). NOR fresh attackers (Strand Larsen/Bobb) on for Sørloth/Nusa if profligate. |
| 75-90' | Highest-leverage window. If level: low-event late-winner archetype live (Finding 19) — deep runner or set-piece. If one leads: leader manages, chaser throws on attackers. Valenzuela's leniency holds unless a DOGSO emerges. |
| ET (if 90' level) | Tired presses favor counters + set-pieces; Amad peaks; NOR depth bench tilts; shootout coin-flip if level after 120. |
10. Methodology Notes
Findings applied:
- §6.6 WDM anchor — squad value ×3 + FIFA + form + qualifying + GDiff×0.5 (pedigree 0.0). Computed fav_share 0.602 → NOR 37/D23/CIV40.
- R32-1 (deviation cap) — fav_share < 0.65 → cap positive deviation at +5pt. My NOR landed at 34 (−3), inside cap. Did NOT add "KO experience" or pedigree adjustments — the WDM excludes pedigree for validated reasons.
- R32-2 (opponent-tier form) — used weighted PPG (both 3.00); identical on form, differentiator is GDiff and margin.
- R32-3 (CONMEBOL reactive blueprint) — CIV = mid-block + counter pace + in-form defense + solid GK; applied +2% CIV nudge; cap favorite advance at 60%.
- R32-4 (draw band by fav_share) — fav_share 0.60 → 20-25% band; sat at 25% (upper end, justified by both-score dynamics + Amad ET weapon + NOR leaky D).
- Empirical weights: hot_gk ×0.25 (Fofana reputation-only), sterile ×2.0 (N/A — NOR has proven finisher, screen doesn't fire), context ×2.0 (context delta was 0, neutral), momentum ×1.75 (form equal, no delta), conservation ×1.5 (delta 0).
- Finding 6 (CB set-piece) — Ajer/Heggem + Kessié in Who Scores.
- Finding 10 (star-as-creator) — Ødegaard modeled as assist > goal.
- Finding 18 (bench game-state) — Amad weighted higher if CIV level/leading; NOR bench lower if chasing CIV block.
- Finding 19 (low-event late winner) — included rotated-in/late-arriving CM at 5%.
- F11 neutralized (roof closed); F12 = 0 (milestone + historic-first).
Key judgment calls:
- Trusted the WDM over gut. The squad-value instinct screams "NOR favorite," but the WDM (and the goals factor, clean for knockouts) says coin-flip leaning CIV. The NED-MAR/GER-PAR pattern is explicit: don't over-adjust to the squad-value favorite vs a reactive-block opponent.
- Did NOT fire sterile-domination for NOR. Haaland is a proven clinical finisher (4G/2gp) — the screen is for teams WITHOUT a finisher. NOR's risk is defensive, not finishing.
- Hot-GK kept small (×0.25). Fofana's 2 GA is back-four-driven (Kossounou–Agbadou), not GK heroics — no MOTMs, no shootout pedigree. Resist the reputation over-application the empirical tuning flagged.
