Morocco vs. Canada - Pure Football Analysis (glm-5.2)
2026 World Cup, Round of 16 | July 4, 2026 | NRG Stadium, Houston TX (roof CLOSED)
Kickoff: 19:00 CEST (17:00 UTC / 12:00 CDT) | Referee: TBD ⚠️ (not yet assigned in source archive)
TL;DR
MAR advance 56% — but the modal 90' scoreline is a 1-1 draw, and Bounou's confirmed-form shootout pedigree (2× WC shootout winner) is the single variable most likely to decide who goes to the QF.
- WDM fav_share 0.60 → MAR is a moderate, not overwhelming, favorite. Squad value (€318M vs €185M) is the dominant factor; FIFA rank, form, and qualifying all tilt MAR but not decisively.
- Bounou = confirmed-form hot GK (ESP 2022 R16 shootout + NED R32 shootout, both won) → empirical ×0.5-0.6 split, not the reputation-only ×0.25. Raises the draw→pens path; MAR projected to win 65% of any shootout.
- MAR advance capped ~60% (R32-3: hot-GK + reactive-capable compound); my 56% sits under the cap — CAN is a live 44% underdog, not a no-hoper.
- CAN's Marsch high-press 4-4-2 can disrupt MAR's possession (mild Finding 17 risk) — but because CAN presses high rather than parking a low block, MAR's chances still convert (unlike vs a bus). CAN's upside = turnover→David; MAR's upside = bypassed press→Saibari pace.
- F11 NEUTRALIZED (Houston roof closed + AC, validated venue). F12 = 0% both (R16, must-win, winner→QF). No conservation, no weather drag.
- Who Scores #1s: Saibari (MAR, 28% — 3-in-3 historic group form + pens) vs Jonathan David (CAN, 26% — clinical captain, 5 group goals). Eustáquio (CAN) is the F19 late-arriving-CM threat after his 90+2' R32 winner.
Prediction: 1-1 Draw at 90' (15%) → MAR edge ET/pens · MAR 1-0 (14%) · CAN 0-1 (12%) · MAR 2-1 (11%) · 0-0 (7%)
Watch: If it reaches penalties, Bounou's confirmed edge (~65%) is decisive — but if CAN's press forces an early turnover-goal, the upset (CAN in 90') is fully live.
1. Morocco 🇲🇦 — Team Profile
Basic Info
- Federation: CAF | FIFA Rank: 6 | Tier: 2 (genuine dark horse)
- Manager: Mohamed Ouahbi ⚠️ (NOT Walid Regragui as the scout brief states — Regragui left March 2026; Ouahbi, the U-20 WC-winning youth coach, is 3 months into his first senior job. Canonical profile is authoritative.) Possession-based 4-2-3-1, technically gifted — the 2022 "defend deep, win 1-0" identity is gone.
- Pedigree: AFCON champions Jan 2026; 2022 WC semi-finalists. Genuine continental + world pedigree.
- Form (this tournament): Drew BRA 1-1 (MD1) · beat SCO 1-0 (MD2, Saibari 71") · beat HAI 4-2 (MD3) · drew NED 1-1, won 3-2 pens (R32, Bounou shootout). Unbeaten in 90' across 4 matches.
- Base camp: Dallas (regional, short hop to Houston).
Tactical Identity (4-2-3-1)
- Possession-dominant under Ouahbi; elite full-backs (Hakimi, Mazraoui) provide width and the creative hub from deep.
- Mobile front three: Saibari (#9), Díaz (RW/#10), El Khannouss (LW) — pace to burn in transition.
- Can drop into a reactive mid-block when game state demands (as vs NED R32 — went 1-1, pens).
- CAPABILITY to play both possession AND reactive — this is why the R32-3 reactive-blueprint cap still applies even under a possession manager.
Key Players
| Player | Club | Position | Profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yassine Bounou | Al-Hilal | GK | Confirmed-form hot GK — 2× WC shootout winner (ESP 2022, NED R32). THE model-breaker. |
| Achraf Hakimi (C) | PSG | RB | Captain; 28 club goals last season inc. UCL final. Creative hub from deep; scored+assisted vs HAI. |
| Noussair Mazraoui | Man United | LCB/LB | Elite ball-playing defender; NL heritage (R32 angle now past). |
| Brahim Díaz | Real Madrid | RW/#10 | Primary creative outlet; set up Saibari's opener vs BRA. |
| Ismael Saibari | PSV→Bayern | ST | HISTORIC — scored in all 3 group games (first African to do so at a single WC); scored the R32 pen. |
| Bilal El Khannouss | Stuttgart | LW | Other creator from the left. |
Strengths / Weaknesses
- + Tournament DNA (2022 SF run), deep KO experience, in-form #9, world-class GK in shootouts, technical midfield (Ounahi/El Aynaoui).
- + Two identities in one — can possess OR grind out a 1-1 → pens (where Bounou wins).
- − First-time senior manager (Ouahbi, 3 months) — tactical inexperience in a live KO is a mild risk.
- − Hakimi off-field legal case (France trial ordered) — FA fully supportive, no on-field disruption so far, but a background distraction.
- − Only 3 goals from open play across the 3 group games vs modest opposition (rest came from pens/OG/set pieces) — finishing not yet ruthless.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1, confirmed-formation baseline from R32)
Bounou; Hakimi (C), Mazraoui, Aguerd/Riad, Salah-Eddine; Amrabat/El Aynaoui, Ounahi; Díaz, Saibari, El Khannouss; El Kaabi/Saibari (ST). (R32 XI was the template; Ouahbi rotated MD3 heavily but reverted to the strong core for the KO.)
2. Canada 🇨🇦 — Team Profile
Basic Info
- Federation: CONCACAF | FIFA Rank: ~30-35 (not in archived profile; estimated from public rankings, ~June 2026) | Tier: 2-2.5 (rising)
- Manager: Jesse Marsch (USA, 52) — pressing-obsessed, AGGRESSIVE temperament. 4-4-2 with vertical transitions. Has been criticized for not adjusting vs low blocks.
- Pedigree: WC co-host; first-ever WC knockout win achieved R32 (1-0 RSA). Limited deep-KO pedigree vs MAR.
- Form (this tournament): Drew BIH 1-1 (MD1) · beat QAT 6-0 (MD2, David hat-trick) · lost SUI 1-2 (MD3) · beat RSA 1-0 (R32, Eustáquio 90+2').
- Base camp: Vancouver → traveled to LA (R32) → now Houston. Two cross-continent moves; mild travel fatigue but CONCACAF home-continent crowd likely at NRG.
Tactical Identity (4-4-2)
- High-energy press, two flat banks of four, vertical passing through Eustáquio/Saliba to David.
- Presses HIGH — does NOT park a low block. This is the key matchup variable: a high press vs MAR's possession.
- Impact bench: Larin (press-resistant #9), Promise David, Davies (managed back, impact-sub vs RSA).
Key Players
| Player | Club | Position | Profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maxime Crépeau | Portland Timbers | GK | Confirmed #1; clean sheet R32 (0.13 xGC). Reputation-only — no WC shootout pedigree (×0.25). One MD3 error flagged. |
| Jonathan David (C) | (club TBD) | FW | Captain; clinical. 5 group goals incl. QAT hat-trick. Blank vs RSA. CAN's main finisher. |
| Stephen Eustáquio | (club TBD) | CM | Scored the R32 winner 90+2'. Late-arriving runner (F19). In form. |
| Tajon Buchanan | (club TBD) | RW | Pace in transition; press-leading wing. |
| Alphonso Davies | Bayern Munich | LB | 16-month XI absence; impact sub vs RSA. May start vs MAR — would be a major boost. ⚠️ status uncertain. |
| Cyle Larin | (club TBD) | FW | Press-resistant #9; super-sub risk (subbed 58' vs SUI). |
Strengths / Weaknesses
- + Highest-energy press MAR will have faced this tournament; can force turnovers high up the pitch.
- + Clinical finisher in David; deepest bench in CAN WC history (Davies + Larin + Promise David).
- + Home-continent crowd (Houston has Canadian/North American support base).
- − Koné OUT (tournament-ending) — single creative reshuffle (−3 to −5pt, NOT gutting per rule 13; Eustáquio/Saliba cover).
- − Crépeau = reputation-only GK, no shootout pedigree — the inverse of Bounou.
- − Davies managed/uncertain to start; less KO pedigree than MAR as a unit.
- − Marsch's historical weakness vs sides that bypass his press (MAR's transition pace is elite).
Predicted XI (4-4-2 / 4-2-3-1 hybrid, from R32 template)
Crépeau; Johnston, Bombito, Cornelius, Laryea; Buchanan, Eustáquio (C), Saliba, Millar; David, Oluwaseyi. (Davies pushing for a start at LB if fully cleared — would shift Laryea/shape.)
3. Head-to-Head Record
| Date | Competition | Result |
|---|---|---|
| — | — | First-ever World Cup meeting. Limited competitive H2H history. |
No meaningful prior competitive sample — this is a clean-slate matchup. Both sides' tournament form (this WC) is the best available proxy.
4. 🌡️ Physical & Environmental Conditions (Finding 11)
| Factor | Value | Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Venue | NRG Stadium, Houston TX | Retractable roof — CLOSED for all WC 2026 matches + 12,000-ton AC. Effectively indoor. |
| Match-day climate (outdoor) | Houston July (~33°C, humid) | IRRELEVANT — roof closed neutralizes it. |
| Indoor conditions | Climate-controlled, ~21°C | Neutral. No heat/humidity penalty. |
| Altitude | ~15m (sea level) | None. |
| Travel | MAR: Dallas→Houston (short). CAN: Vancouver→LA→Houston (2 cross-continent moves). | CAN mild travel-fatigue flag (~−2pt), but CONCACAF home-continent. Not a same-day intercontinental disruption. |
| Roof status | CLOSED ✅ | Finding 11 = NEUTRALIZED. Validated (POR-DRC Jun 17 same venue). |
Impact Analysis
- Heat penalty: 0%. Roof closed + AC. Do NOT apply the >28°C pressing-degradation rule.
- CAN travel: −2pt mild. Two time-zone-crossing moves in a week, but Marsch's press sides are conditioned for high workload; not a structural disadvantage.
- Net environmental impact: ~neutral, with a faint CAN travel flag. No draw-uplift from conditions.
5. Referee Analysis
⚠️ PROCESS GAP — referee NOT YET ASSIGNED in the source archive (referee/ directory empty; scout brief says "TBD — verify assignment"). This is flagged explicitly per methodology: a missing referee profile is a process failure, not a "clean" baseline. I project from tournament-average referee behavior and will note the uncertainty. Update before kickoff if assignment drops.
| Statistic | Tournament Average | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Yellows (career-typical) | ~3.5-4.5 Y/gm | Apply 20-25% tournament leniency discount (Finding 7) → projected ~3-4 Y tonight. |
| Reds | Rare unless a defender is beaten DOGSO | 0 most likely; ~15-20% chance of 1. |
| Penalties | ~25-30% chance of ≥1 pen (band, NOT a verdict — Finding 15) | Present as a band; never load-bearing on a scoreline. |
| VAR | ≥1 VAR-decisive intervention ~30-40% for monitor-reliant refs in high-stakes KOs | Card leniency ≠ VAR leniency (Finding 7). |
Prediction
~3-4 yellows (discounted), 0 reds most likely (~15-20% of 1), 25-30% chance of ≥1 penalty. R16 intensity + Marsch's press could push cards to the higher end; Bounou/MAR's discipline keeps it controlled. The penalty band matters more here than usual because both teams have confirmed penalty takers (Saibari MAR; David CAN) — a converted pen is a live scoreline component, but it is a band, not a near-certainty (validated POR-DRC: 0.40 rate → 0 pens).
6. Key Tactical Battles
6.1 CAN's High Press vs MAR's Possession Build-up
The defining battle. Marsch's 4-4-2 presses high and vertically; Ouahbi's MAR builds possession from the back through Mazraoui/Hakimi. Two outcomes: (a) CAN forces a turnover high → David clinical → CAN goal (upside for CAN); (b) MAR bypasses the press with one pass to Saibari/El Khannouss pace → transition chance (upside for MAR). MAR's ball-playing defenders are elite enough to favor (b) more often, but CAN will win (a) at least once over 90'. This is why the game is tight, not one-way.
6.2 Bounou vs Crépeau — the Asymmetric GK Edge
The single biggest matchup asymmetry in the match. Bounou: 2× WC shootout winner, AFcon-winning keeper, in confirmed hot form. Crépeau: solid shot-stopper, zero shootout pedigree, one MD3 error flagged. In regulation this is roughly even (both can make saves); in a shootout it is decisively MAR's (~65% MAR). This asymmetry is the core of the §7K tree below — it raises the value of every "draw at 90'" branch.
6.3 Saibari/Díaz vs CAN's CB Pairing (Bombito-Cornelius)
Saibari is in historic goal-scoring form (3-in-3); Díaz is the creator who unlocked BRA. CAN's CBs are physical but can be isolated in transition. MAR will isolate Saibari 1v1 after bypassing the press — that's MAR's most reliable scoring mechanism. CAN must keep a clean sheet of transitions to survive.
6.4 Set Pieces (Finding 6 — CB scoring)
Both teams score from corners more than expected. MAR's Mazraoui/Aguerd/Riad and CAN's Bombito/Johnston are aerial threats. Include a CB at ~5-6% in Who Scores for both sides — a set-piece goal is a live equalizer path that could force the draw→ET/pens tree.
6.5 Decision Graph Resolution (doc-5 — walked independently)
⚡ MANDATORY. I walk all 6 steps myself from doc-1's Findings + the briefs + predictions-summary. Numbers shown explicitly.
Step 0 — WDM Anchor (§6.6, computed before Step 1):
| Factor (weight) | MAR | CAN | MAR share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Squad value (×3.0) | €318M | €185M | 318/503 = 0.632 |
| FIFA rank (×1.0) | #6 (inv. 94) | ~#33 (inv. 67) | 94/161 = 0.584 |
| Tournament form (×1.0, opponent-tier-weighted PPG) | BRA(d,T1×2)=2 + SCO(w,T3×1)=3 + HAI(w,T3×1)=3 + NED(d,T1×2)=2 = 2.50 wPPG | BIH(d,T3×0.5)=0.5 + QAT(w,T3×1)=3 + SUI(l,T2×0)=0 + RSA(w,T2×1)=3 = 1.625 wPPG | 2.50/4.125 = 0.606 |
| Qualifying form (×1.0) | AFCON champ; ~2.1 qual PPG | underperformed CONCACAF; ~1.4 qual PPG | 2.1/3.5 = 0.600 |
| GDiff (×0.5, +10 shift) | +3 over 4 | +6 over 4 (boosted by 6-0 QAT) | 13/29 = 0.448 |
Composite MAR score = 3.0×0.632 + 1.0×0.584 + 1.0×0.606 + 1.0×0.600 + 0.5×0.448
= 1.896 + 0.584 + 0.606 + 0.600 + 0.224 = 3.910
Composite CAN score = (3.0+1.0+1.0+1.0+0.5) − 3.910 = 6.500 − 3.910 = 2.590
fav_share = 3.910 / 6.500 = 0.602 → MAR moderate favorite
WDM 90' anchor (knockout draw band per R32-4, fav_share 0.60-0.70 → draw 20-25%):
- MAR 90' win ≈ 40% · Draw ≈ 25% · CAN 90' win ≈ 35% (MAR has the composite edge but CAN is a genuine 35% live 90' threat)
- Neutral-WDM MAR advance (50/50 pen split) ≈ 51%.
Step 1 — Group/KO context: R16, winner → QF. Both must-win. No draw-suffices, no GD-chase, no bracket-conservation. No 3rd-place dynamics. Yellow-card suspensions reset group→knockout (per FIFA rule, confirmed in CAN profile). Urgency symmetric. No conservation trigger either way.
Step 2 — Conservation (F12): 0% both. R16 knockout, must-win for both. Not a group match, no progression-secured team, no defending-champion statement dynamic. MAR (aggressive-ish Ouahbi) and CAN (aggressive Marsch) both go full-throttle. F12 deltas = 0.
Step 3 — Weather × style (F11): NEUTRALIZED. Houston roof CLOSED + AC. The >28°C pressing-degradation rule does NOT fire — CAN's press does not fade from heat at 60'. Indoor, ~21°C. No weather drag on either side. (CAN's mild travel fatigue is captured separately at −2pt, not via F11.)
Step 4 — Weather × defense stack: N/A — weather neutralized. No heat+lowblock+hotGK draw compound from conditions. The draw mechanism here is Bounou + tactical tightness, not weather.
Step 5 — Temperament: Ouahbi (MAR) is a first-time senior manager but has crystallised a possession identity in 3 months; executability is good but mild inexperience risk in a live KO. Marsch (CAN) is experienced, aggressive, press-obsessed — but has a documented weakness adjusting vs sides that bypass his press (MAR can). Both temperaments favor attacking intent → goals more likely than a sterile 0-0, but Bounou's floor keeps MAR's concession rate low.
Step 6 — Synthesis (show the math):
WDM anchor: MAR 90' 40 / Draw 25 / CAN 90' 35 → MAR advance ~51% (neutral pens)
Adjustments:
+ Bounou confirmed-form hot-GK (×0.5-0.6, 2× WC shootout): +5pt MAR advance
(raises draw→pens path; MAR pen-win 65% vs Crépeau's 0 pedigree)
+ R32-3 reactive-capable + hot-GK compound → CAP MAR advance at 60%: binding only above 60% (not triggered at 56%)
− CAN Marsch press disrupts MAR possession (mild F17): −2pt MAR (raises CAN 90' win)
− CAN Koné OUT (single creative reshuffle, rule 13): −3pt CAN (already in WDM form factor; small net)
− CAN travel fatigue (2 cross-continent moves): −2pt CAN (mild)
± Referee TBD: no directional adjustment; pen band 25-30% noted
± F11/F12: neutralized / 0%
Final: MAR advance = 51% + 5 (Bounou) − 0 (cap not binding) = ~56%
CAN advance = 44%
(Within R32-1 deviation cap: +5pt from WDM, justified solely by Bounou confirmed-form pedigree — the documented reason.)
Final probabilities (reconcile with §7K): MAR advance 56% · CAN advance 44% · 90' line MAR 40 / Draw 25 / CAN 35.
7K. Knockout Prediction (§7K — used INSTEAD of §7 for R16)
Draw band set by R32-4: fav_share 0.60-0.70 (moderate favorite) → draw 20-25%. I use 25% (top of band) because Bounou's confirmed-form hot-GK + CAN's disruptive press both push toward a tight, level-at-90' game.
90-Minute (Regulation) Outcome
| Outcome | Probability | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| MAR win in 90' | 40% | WDM composite edge (fav_share 0.60); Saibari/Díaz finisher quality; Bounou's clean-sheet floor. |
| Draw at 90' | 25% | Top of R32-4 band; Bounou confirmed-form + CAN's press can stifle; both solid defensively. This branch is Bounou-tilted. |
| CAN win in 90' | 35% | CAN is a genuine threat — press forces a turnover, David clinical, Crépeau holds. Not a no-hoper. |
Extra Time (conditional — given draw at 90')
| Outcome | Cond. % | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| MAR win in ET | 35% | ET = tired legs; MAR's technical quality + Bounou's confidence tell; CAN's press fades after 90' of chasing. |
| Draw after ET (→pens) | 45% | Both cautious in ET; neither forces it; two solid GKs. Highest conditional — pens are a real sub-path. |
| CAN win in ET | 20% | CAN could catch a tiring MAR on the counter; lower than MAR's ET-win due to MAR's bench/possession control. |
Penalty Shootout (conditional — given pens reached)
| Outcome | Cond. % | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| MAR win on pens | 65% | Bounou = 2× WC shootout winner (ESP 2022, NED R32). Confirmed-form ×0.5-0.6 split. Crépeau has zero shootout pedigree. Decisive edge. |
| CAN win on pens | 35% | Upset is live — Crépeau could have a hot night, CAN's takers (David, Eustáquio) are reliable. But the GK asymmetry dominates. |
Advance Probability (unconditional — show the math)
| Team | Advance % | Calculation |
|---|---|---|
| MAR | 56% | 0.40 + (0.25 × 0.35) + (0.25 × 0.45 × 0.65) = 0.40 + 0.0875 + 0.0731 = 0.561 |
| CAN | 44% | 0.35 + (0.25 × 0.20) + (0.25 × 0.45 × 0.35) = 0.35 + 0.0500 + 0.0394 = 0.439 |
(MAR advance 56% sits under the R32-3 cap of ~60%; the +5pt deviation from the neutral-WDM 51% is justified solely by Bounou's confirmed-form shootout pedigree — within the R32-1 deviation cap.)
Scoreline Distribution (90' only)
| Score | Probability | Scenario |
|---|---|---|
| 1-1 | 15% | Modal 90' score. Tight game, both score once; Bounou/Crépeau trade saves → ET/pens. |
| MAR 1-0 | 14% | Bounou clean sheet + a Saibari/Díaz moment; CAN press repelled. |
| CAN 0-1 | 12% | Press forces turnover, David clinical; Crépeau clean sheet. |
| MAR 2-1 | 11% | MAR edges an open game; both keepers beaten once each + MAR adds a second. |
| 0-0 | 7% | Sterile-domination / dual-clean-sheet → pens. Lower because both attacks are too good for 0-0 to be modal. |
| Other (MAR 2-0, CAN 2-1, 2-2, MAR 3-1...) | ~41% | Tail. |
Modal Match Path
MAR 1-0 in 90' (14%) is the single most likely full resolution — Bounou clean sheet + one Saibari/Díaz goal, CAN's press repelled. Secondary modal path: 1-1 at 90' → 1-1 ET → MAR win 3-2 on pens (7.3%) — the Bounou-decided shootout path. Together the two MAR-leaning paths cover ~21%; the draw→pens tree (~7%) is the cleanest single "Bounou wins it" expression.
8. Who Scores
Morocco 🇲🇦
| Rank | Player | Position | Probability | Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ismael Saibari | ST | 28% | Historic 3-in-3 group form; penalty taker (scored R32 pen); #9 in a 4-2-3-1; transition pace vs CAN's high line. The finisher. |
| 2 | Brahim Díaz | RW/#10 | 18% | Real Madrid creator; set up Saibari vs BRA; cuts inside to shoot; also an ASSIST threat (rule 10 — model him as creator too). |
| 3 | Achraf Hakimi | RB (C) | 12% | Captain; scored + assisted vs HAI; overlap + set-piece presence; creative hub from deep. |
| 4 | Bilal El Khannouss | LW | 9% | Other creator from the left; cuts in to shoot. |
| 5 | CB (Mazraoui/Aguerd/Riad) | CB | 6% | Finding 6 — CB set-piece scoring. MAR's big ball-playing CBs at corners. |
| — | Other / late-arriving CM (Ounahi/El Aynaoui) | — | 27% | F19 — a deep runner is a live ~5-8% in tight KOs; + own-goals/own-branch tail. |
Canada 🇨🇦
| Rank | Player | Position | Probability | Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jonathan David (C) | FW | 26% | Clinical captain; 5 group goals incl. QAT hat-trick; penalty taker. Blank vs RSA but the main finisher. |
| 2 | Stephen Eustáquio | CM | 14% | F19 late-arriving CM — scored the R32 winner at 90+2'. In form; arrives late into the box. |
| 3 | Cyle Larin | FW | 11% | Press-resistant #9; super-sub risk (subbed 58' vs SUI — may not play 90'). High per-minute rate. |
| 4 | Tajon Buchanan | RW | 9% | Pace in transition; benefits when MAR commits forward. |
| 5 | CB (Bombito/Johnston) | CB | 5% | Finding 6 — CB set-piece; CAN's aerial threat at corners. |
| — | Davies (if starts/impact sub) / Promise David / other | — | 35% | Davies a live ~6% if he features; Promise David impact (~4%); own-branch tail. |
9. Match Flow Projection
| Timeframe | Expected Pattern |
|---|---|
| 0-15' | CAN flies out in a high press — Marsch trademark. MAR absorbs, builds patiently through Mazraoui/Hakimi. Likely cagey; a turnover in this window is CAN's best early chance. |
| 15-45' | MAR establishes possession (projected ~55-56%); Díaz/Saibari probe. CAN's press either wins the ball high (→David) or is bypassed (→Saibari pace). Most likely first goal window: 25-40'. |
| HT-60' | Game state-dependent. If level, both feel each other out — Bounou/Crépeau make any necessary saves. CAN's press intensity holds (no heat fatigue — roof closed). |
| 60-80' | Subs shape it. Marsch unleashes Larin/Promise David/Davies; Ouahbi locks the block if MAR leads. If CAN is chasing vs MAR's set block, bench impact is LOWER (rule 18) — CAN's creators chase against an organized defense. If MAR is chasing, CAN's bench is also blunted vs a deep MAR block. |
| 80-90'+ | Tight KOs hinge here. A late winner (either side) is live (~15-20% combined). If level, we go to ET — where MAR's technical quality + Bounou's confidence tilt it; if still level, pens → Bounou (~65% MAR). |
10. Methodology Notes
Findings applied:
- WDM §6.6 — fav_share 0.60 computed (squad value ×3 dominant: €318M vs €185M). MAR moderate favorite.
- R32-1 (deviation cap) — MAR advance +5pt over neutral-WDM 51%, justified solely by Bounou confirmed-form; within cap.
- R32-3 (reactive/hot-GK cap) — MAR advance capped ~60%; 56% sits under cap.
- R32-4 (draw band tiering) — fav_share 0.60-0.70 → draw 20-25%; used 25% (top end, Bounou + press).
- Hot-GK confirmed-form split (empirical, Jun 29) — Bounou ×0.5-0.6 (2× WC shootout winner), NOT reputation ×0.25. Core of the §7K tree.
- Finding 7 (ref leniency) — 20-25% card discount applied (referee TBD → tournament average).
- Finding 10 (star-as-creator) — Díaz modeled as assist threat, not just scorer; Hakimi as creator-from-deep.
- Finding 13 (single absence ≠ gutting) — CAN's Koné OUT = −3 to −5pt reshuffle, NOT the 25-30pt gutting rule (rule 9 needs 2+ of {creator, striker, GK}).
- Finding 17 (sterile domination) — fires MILDLY for MAR (possession side), but CAN presses HIGH not low-block, so MAR's chances still convert. Weak flag.
- Finding 18 (bench vs set block) — applied in match flow; CAN's bench blunted if chasing vs MAR's set block.
- Finding 19 (late-arriving CM) — Eustáquio (CAN) included at #2 on the back of his 90+2' R32 winner.
- F11 NEUTRALIZED (roof closed). F12 = 0% (R16 must-win both).
Findings NOT applied / neutralized:
- F11 heat penalty (roof closed), F12 conservation (knockout), F14 defending-champion dynamics (n/a), age-decline (no 38+ outfield scorer on either side — David 26, Saibari 24).
