Spain vs. Uruguay - Pure Football Analysis (glm-5.2)
2026 World Cup, Group H, Matchday 3 | June 26, 2026 (local) / June 27 CEST | Estadio Akron, Guadalajara, Mexico
Kickoff: 02:00 CEST (18:00 local CST) | Referee: Ismail Elfath (USA)
TL;DR
Spain win favored (~58%), ESP 2-1 the modal scoreline — but a live draw (~25%) is the real hedge because Spain need only draw to top the group while Uruguay must attack and an open, two-way game suits Spain's superior attack.
- Prediction: ESP 2-1 (16%), ESP 2-0 (14%), ESP 3-1 (12%), 1-1 Draw (12%), ESP 1-0 (10%) → ESP win 58%, Draw 25%, URU win 17%.
- Why Spain: Full-strength tournament team (Yamal + Williams + Pedri + Rodri + Oyarzabal all firing), calm methodical manager, unbeaten in 33; URU is missing main creator De Arrascaeta AND best CB Ronald Araújo, and an open Bielsa press without a deep block gives Spain the finishing mechanism that failed only in MD1 (when stars were benched).
- Why not a blowout: Spain need only draw to win the group (conservation + Pedri-on-a-yellow management), Uruguay must win and carries genuine transition threat (Núñez pace, Valverde set-pieces), and Muslera being error-prone rather than "hot" actually cuts both ways — it tilts scorelines to both teams scoring, not to a clean 4-0.
- The revolt discount: The Jun 26 player revolt (Valverde, Bentancur, Ugarte, Rochet confronting Bielsa, players walking out) caps Uruguay's upside at ~17% — a fractured, low-trust camp rarely galvanizes into a clean win — but it also inflates chaotic variance, which feeds the draw, not Spain.
- Referee: Elfath (career ~3.80 Y/gm) discounted to ~3.0 Y/gm at this WC (validated NED-JPN: 3Y). URU's fractious press = URU likely carries the cards; ~10-15% pen chance.
- Who Scores #1s: ESP — Oyarzabal (~22%, MD2 MOTM brace, plays 90); URU — Valverde (~18%, captain, sole creator with De Arrascaeta out, plays 90, set-pieces).
Watch: Uruguay's pressing intensity / body language in the opening 20'. If the revolt reads as half-hearted pressing, Spain's counters blow it open (3-1+); if URU sell out for Bielsa's "final," a desperate 1-1/2-2 draw stays live. Secondary watch: Pedri subbed by ~70' to protect his yellow-accumulation status for the R32.
Prediction: ESP 2-1 (16%), ESP 2-0 (14%), ESP 3-1 (12%), 1-1 Draw (12%), ESP 1-0 (10%)
1. Spain — Team Profile
Basic Info
- FIFA Ranking: #3 | Tier: 1 (genuine trophy contender, tournament team)
- Manager: Luis de la Fuente (64) — calm, methodical, possession-dominant; "I only know how to play to win." In role since Dec 2022. Euro 2024 winners.
- WC History: 2010 champions; 2x finalists. Unbeaten in 33 matches overall.
- Form (last 5 competitive): W-D-W-W-W. MD1: 0-0 CPV (70% poss, 27 shots, 2.29 xG, 0 goals — finishing crisis with Yamal/Williams benched). MD2: 4-0 KSA (Yamal 10', Oyarzabal 21'/24', OG — tournament-team escalation validated).
- Group H status: QUALIFIED, top (4 pts, +4 GD). A draw wins the group; even a loss likely keeps them through.
- Base camp: Chattanooga, TN → on-site at Sports Arena Club Guadalajara since Jun 25 (~1 day local acclim).
Tactical Identity (4-3-3)
- Possession-dominant, high full-backs (Cucurella LB, Porro RB), narrow midfield overload. Rodri single pivot, Pedri + Fabián/Olmo as double-8s.
- Attacking trident: Yamal (RW) + Oyarzabal (#9) + Williams (LW) — all fit for MD3 (the MD1 "stars benched" failure mode is resolved).
- Engine room: Rodri + Pedri + (Olmo/Fabián). Ball-progression machine; breaks presses better than any side in the tournament.
- Set-pieces: Fabián/Olmo delivery; Cubarsí + Laporte aerial targets (Finding 6 CB threat).
Key Players
| Player | Club | Position | Profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lamine Yamal | Barcelona | RW, 18 | Generational; scored MD2 (2nd-youngest WC scorer after Pelé 1958). Sub risk >30% (fitness/yellow mgmt). |
| Mikel Oyarzabal | Real Sociedad | ST, 29 | MD2 MOTM (brace). 22 G+A in last 15 Spain matches. Plays 90. |
| Pedri | Barcelona | CM, 23 | Creative hub. 1 yellow (apercibido) — booked here = suspended for R32. Likely subbed ~70' to protect. |
| Rodri (c) | Man City | DM, 29 | Ballon d'Or 2024. Anchor, untouchable, plays 90. |
| Nico Williams | Athletic | LW, 23 | Euro 2024 star; now fully fit, likely starting MD3. |
| Dani Olmo | Barcelona | AM, 28 | Versatile #10/#8; MD2 starter. |
| Pau Cubarsí | Barcelona | CB, 19 | Ball-playing CB; set-piece aerial threat. |
| Unai Simón | Athletic | GK, 28 | Confirmed #1. No GK change risk. |
Strengths / Weaknesses
- + Deepest possession + press-breaking unit in the tournament; tournament-team depth (Ferran, Pino, Baena, Merino off bench).
- + Calm, high-discipline camp (0 yellows in MD1); no internal friction.
- − MD1 finishing crisis (2.29 xG → 0G) — but that was without Yamal/Williams; mechanism fixed MD2 (2.78 xG → 4G).
- − Conservation/rest incentives (draw suffices, Pedri yellow management, Yamal fitness) → may take foot off gas after leading.
Predicted XI (4-3-3)
Simón; Porro, Cubarsí, Laporte, Cucurella; Olmo (or Fabián), Rodri (c), Pedri; Yamal, Oyarzabal, Williams.
2. Uruguay — Team Profile
Basic Info
- FIFA Ranking: #16 | Tier: 2 (dark horse; CONMEBOL pedigree, 2x historical WC winners)
- Manager: Marcelo Bielsa (70, "El Loco") — since May 2023. Aggressive man-oriented high-press; energy-intensive; tactically inflexible. Confirmed leaving post-tournament.
- WC History: 1930 & 1950 champions; semi-finalists 2010.
- Form (last 5 competitive): D-D-D-D-L. MD1: 1-1 KSA (late Araújo header, 65% poss, toothless). MD2: 2-2 CPV (66% poss, 1.92 xG, only 2 SoT, Muslera error → Varela goal).
- Group H status: 2 pts, 0 GD — MUST WIN. A draw = likely elimination via 3rd-place lottery; a loss = almost certain elimination.
- Base camp: Playa del Carmen (Fairmont Mayakoba) → ~1 day local acclim in Guadalajara.
Tactical Identity (4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1)
- Man-to-man high press, vertical transitions, fullback overlaps. Bielsa refuses to adapt — "play as we have been playing" (Jun 26).
- Vulnerable to counters and fatigue; toothless in possession when the system breaks (2 SoT from 1.92 xG vs CPV).
- With De Arrascaeta OUT, Valverde must carry the entire creative load; set-pieces (Valverde delivery → Cáceres/Giménez) become the primary route.
Key Players
| Player | Club | Position | Profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Federico Valverde (c) | Real Madrid | CM, 27 | Engine, creative hub (sole creator now). Plays 90. Confronted Bielsa in revolt. |
| Darwin Núñez | Liverpool | ST, 26 | Pace, low confidence — 0 goals in 2 WC matches, hooked at HT MD1. Sub risk >40%. |
| Agustín Canobbio | Athletico PR | RW | In form; scored MD2 (45+5'). |
| Maximiliano Araújo | Toluca | LM/LB | MD2: 1G + 1A + disallowed. URU's best attacker on form. |
| José María Giménez | Atlético Madrid | CB, 31 | 100th cap; set-piece target; revolt mediator (failed). |
| Manuel Ugarte | Man Utd | CM | Press engine; revolt leader. |
| Rodrigo Bentancur | Spurs | CM | Revolt leader; 1 yellow (apercibido). Late-runner threat. |
| Fernando Muslera | Galatasaray | GK, 39 | Confirmed #1. MD2 rushing error → goal. Age-decline (Finding 16) applied to GK. |
Strengths / Weaknesses
- + Must-win desperation + Bielsa high-intensity system aligned with necessity.
- + Pace in transition (Núñez) vs Spain's high line; Valverde set-piece delivery.
- − 🚨 PLAYER REVOLT (Jun 26): Valverde, Bentancur, Ugarte, Rochet confronted Bielsa demanding reduced training + low-block/counter tactics; Bielsa refused, accused them of wanting him fired; players walked out. 3 of 4 rebels STARTING. Trust broken, executability in doubt.
- − OUT: De Arrascaeta (main creator, ~⅓ of qualifying goals) + Ronald Araújo (best CB). Muslera (39) error-prone. Núñez wasteful.
Predicted XI (4-3-3)
Muslera; Varela, Cáceres, Giménez, Olivera; Valverde (c), Ugarte, Bentancur; Canobbio, Núñez, M. Araújo.
3. Head-to-Head Record
| Date | Competition | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jun 17, 2013 | Confed Cup (Group) | ESP 2-1 URU | Pedro 20', Soldado 32'; Suárez 88' FK. Last meeting. |
| Feb 6, 2013 | Friendly | ESP 3-1 URU | Pre-Confed Cup. |
| Jun 13, 1990 | World Cup (Group) | URU 0-0 ESP | Group-stage draw. |
| Jul 9, 1950 | World Cup (Group) | URU 2-2 ESP | Group-stage draw. |
Pattern: ESP 3W-2D-0L across 5 meetings; Uruguay have never beaten Spain. Sample is small and largely pre-modern; the only modern matchup (2013) pre-dates both current squads. Crucially, none of these carried Uruguay's current must-win stakes — history is a psychological anchor for ESP, not a predictive load-bearer here.
4. 🌡️ Physical & Environmental Conditions (Finding 11)
| Factor | Value | Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | ~19–23°C at kickoff (cooling from 29°C daytime high) | Heat flag = NO. Well below 28°C threshold; no press-degradation penalty. |
| Precipitation | 40–90% rain chance (AccuWeather 40% tonight; SMN 90% daytime; "lluvia moderada") | Wet pitch → favors long balls/duels/transitions; mild degradation of ESP's slick final-third tiki-taka. |
| Thunderstorm / lightning | ELEVATED — AccuWeather explicitly warns lightning could halt play | FIFA protocol: 30-min stoppage if lightning within 8 miles. Rhythm-disruption uncertainty (no predictable direction). |
| Altitude | ~1,566 m (Guadalajara) | No visible pace-tax (validated MEX-KOR Jun 19 at this same venue — no fatigue cluster). Apply ~0%. |
| Roof | OPEN-AIR (no retractable roof) | Weather reaches the players; NOT neutralized. |
| Travel | Both ~2,800–3,500 km from sea-level base camps; ~1 day local acclim each | Roughly equivalent — no net travel advantage. |
| Humidity | Moderate-high (Guadalajara rainy season) | Minor; combined with rain, slightly favors set-piece/transition over possession precision. |
Impact Analysis — quantitative rules applied
- F11 heat penalty (>28°C degrades pressing by 60'): DOES NOT FIRE. Mild evening temps (~20°C) mean neither side's press is heat-degraded. This is NOT a heat+low-block+hot-GK draw stack (unlike ESP-CPV MD1, which had heat + deep block + Vozinha).
- Altitude: Sub-2,000m → no adjustment (refined Jun 19).
- Rain + open roof: Small, non-directional. Slight edge to URU's vertical transitions and set-pieces; slight drag on ESP final-third crispness. Net ~neutral-to-tiny-URU.
- Lightning-delay risk: Modeled as variance, not a goal/draw driver. A 30-min stoppage could reset legs and benefit whichever side is chasing — baked into the draw/upset tail, not the modal.
- No intercontinental disruption (both Americas-based) → no F11 travel penalty.
5. Referee Analysis (Ismail Elfath, USA)
| Statistic | Career | Tournament Discounted |
|---|---|---|
| Yellows/gm | ~3.75–3.80 (332 matches, 1,263 Y) | ~3.0 Y/gm (×0.79; validated NED-JPN: exactly 3Y) |
| Reds/gm (straight) | ~0.13 | ~0.05–0.10 (rare at WCs) |
| Pens/gm | ~0.30–0.36 (RubiScore 0.36; WorldReferee 0.29) | ~10% chance ≥1 pen (×0.30; tournament refs collapse on pens — Marciniak 0.42→0, Nyberg 0→0) |
| Personality | Moderate/patient; first tactical foul = yellow; lets advantage play | — |
| Big-game temperament | 2022 WC final 4th official; calm, experienced | — |
Match-specific application
- URU card risk elevated: A fractious, divided camp + Bielsa's high press = cynical tactical fouls when Spain breaks the first line. Elfath's "first tactical foul = yellow" tendency will bite a disillusioned URU midfield. Expect URU to carry the majority of cards.
- ESP card risk low: High-discipline side (0 yellows in MD1); de la Fuente's structure rarely produces dogso/cynical fouls.
- VAR note (Finding 7 — leniency = on-field only; VAR bypasses): Elfath was clean in NED-JPN (no controversial VAR). Model ≥1 VAR-decisive intervention at ~25-30% for a high-stakes MD3 decider, but not load-bearing.
- Penalty band: ~10-15% chance of ≥1 penalty (career 0.30+ collapses at WCs). If awarded, ESP (Yamal/Oyarzabal) more likely beneficiary than URU. Not a scoreline load-bearer.
Prediction: 3-4 yellows total (URU-weighted), 0 reds, ~10-15% penalty chance.
6. Key Tactical Battles
6.1 Spain's build-up vs Bielsa's man-press
The marquee matchup. Spain are the deepest press-breaking possession side in world football (Rodri + Cubarsí/Laporte ball-playing CBs + Pedri dropping). Bielsa's man-oriented press, when committed, leaves big spaces behind the first line. If Spain break the first press — which they usually do — Yamal/Williams/Olmo run into acres. If URU's press is half-hearted (revolt Fallout), it's worse: a limp press is easier to bypass AND signals the team isn't fully bought in. This is the single biggest swing variable.
6.2 Rodri vs the URU midfield three (Valverde / Ugarte / Bentancur)
Three revolt leaders vs the tournament's best pivot. Rodri alone must dictate tempo; URU's three are press-energy-intensive but their coordination/chemistry is in question. If they press disjointedly, Rodri picks them apart; if they swarm him, ESP's wide outlets (Yamal/Williams) get 1v1s.
6.3 Núñez's pace vs Spain's high line
ESP's full-backs (Cucurella/Porro) push up, leaving space in behind. Núñez's pace is the obvious URU counter-threat — but he has 0 goals in 2 WC matches, 8 first-half touches in MD1, and >40% sub risk. If he finds form, URU score on the break; if not, URU's transition threat collapses to set-pieces only.
6.4 Set-pieces: Valverde delivery vs Cubarsí/Laporte
With De Arrascaeta out, URU's primary chance-creation route is Valverde corners/FKs → Cáceres/Giménez headers. Finding 6 (CB set-piece scoring) is live for URU — Giménez/Cáceres at ~7%. ESP also dangerous (Cubarsí/Laporte). A rain-slicked pitch raises set-piece variance.
6.5 Muslera's mental state + ESP's high press
A 39-year-old GK coming off a rushing error (MD2), behind a fractured camp, facing the tournament's best press. Finding 16 (age-decline) extends to GKs (validated MD2). Muslera is not a hot-GK draw-preserver — he's an error source. This means ESP score onroutine chances, but it also means scorelines trend to both teams scoring (URU have genuine goal threat too) rather than a clean 4-0.
6.5. Decision Graph Resolution (doc-5 — walked independently)
⚡ Resolved from doc-1 Findings + the briefs + predictions-summary. Explicit numbers per step.
Step 1 — Group context. ESP: qualified, 4 pts +4 GD, draw wins the group → no need-to-win, conservation-friendly. URU: 2 pts, MUST WIN → existential urgency, forced to attack/press from minute 1. Urgency asymmetry is severe and one-directional: URU press, ESP control/counter. Output: URU need-to-win = TRUE (full effort); ESP need-to-win = FALSE (draw suffices).
Step 2 — Conservation (Finding 12). ESP: Tier 1, MD3, already-qualified, draw-suffices → classic conservation context. De la Fuente is "calm/methodical" but not a Deschamps-grade conservative (he escalated MD2 4-0, subbed stars only after a 3-0 lead). Plus ESP are a tournament team (Finding 22) that compounds game-to-game. Net: apply a MODERATE ~3-5% conservation discount (not the full 5-8%) — de la Fuente will manage the game late (rest Pedri on a yellow, sub Yamal for fitness) and accept a draw, but won't park the bus. URU: Bielsa = aggressive, must-win, NO conservation (0%); but revolt = executability risk handled in Step 5.
Step 3 — Weather × style (Finding 11). Mild ~20°C → heat penalty DOES NOT fire. Altitude 1,566m → no visible tax (validated). Rain/open roof → minor, ~neutral (slight set-piece/transition edge to URU). F11 essentially neutralized — this is not an ESP-CPV MD1 heat-stack. No press degradation for either side.
Step 4 — Weather × defense stack. The "heat + low block + hot GK = DRAW" compound (ESP-CPV, ECU-CUR) does NOT fire — no heat, URU is not a low-block team (Bielsa presses high), and Muslera is not a hot GK (error-prone). Instead: mild temps + URU's open must-attack shape = goals scenario, favoring the superior attack (ESP). The blowout exclusion (Finding 22 limit: deep block + veteran hot GK) does NOT apply — so multi-goal margins stay live at 12-15%.
Step 5 — Temperament. ESP: calm, methodical, high-discipline, no friction, executable game plan → strong. URU: revolt, trust broken, 3 of 4 rebel leaders STARTING, Bielsa inflexible → executability in doubt. Two paths: (a) dysfunction → limp press, ESP blowout (3-1+, weighted ~55-60%); (b) "wounded force" galvanization → desperate competitive performance (weighted ~25-30%, mostly draws/upsets); (c) total collapse (weighted ~10-15%). Temperament edge is clearly ESP's.
Step 6 — Synthesis (show the math).
- Naive quality-gap: ESP Tier-1 tournament team full-strength vs URU Tier-2 missing main creator + best CB → naive ESP ~70%.
- Tournament-team depth (Finding 22): ESP is on the list → +3-5pts, BUT already escalated MD2 and conservation offsets → net +0.
- ESP conservation (Step 2): −5% (draw suffices, Pedri-yellow/Yamal-fitness mgmt, MD3). → 65%.
- URU dysfunction + temperament (Steps 5): revolt + Araújo CB out + Muslera age already partly in naive gap, but the fresh Jun-26 revolt news is incremental downside for URU. This pushes mass toward ESP and draw (variance), not URU. → split: ESP +0, draw +3.
- F11 (Step 3-4): neutralized → 0.
- Reconcile to win% table (§7): ESP 58%, Draw 25%, URU 17%.
- 70% (naive) − 5% (ESP conservation) − 7% (must-win variance + revolt chaos → draw/upset tail) = 58% ESP.
- Draw baseline 22-30% → set at 25% (ESP draw-suffices + URU desperation + lightning variance, but URU's dysfunction limits how often they hold a draw).
- URU 17% = "wounded-force" galvanization + ESP-rotates-heavily + Muslera-stands-on-head tail; capped by revolt + gutted creator.
- Reconciles with §7. ✓
7. Scoreline Prediction
Scenario Distribution
| Score | Probability | Scenario |
|---|---|---|
| ESP 2-1 | 16% | ESP breaks URU press, scores 1-2; URU replies via Valverde/Núñez transition or set-piece. Two-way goals, ESP edges — the modal "open must-win game." |
| ESP 2-0 | 14% | ESP controls, clean sheet; URU press fades after 60' (revolt/fatigue); Muslera not tested enough to swing it. |
| ESP 3-1 | 12% | Blowout band (Finding 22): ESP tournament team + URU open shape (no deep block) + Muslera error-prone → floodgates if URU chase at 1-2. |
| 1-1 Draw | 12% | ESP conserves after equalizer/lead (Pedri subbed), URU can't find a winner despite pressing; ESP happy, group won. |
| ESP 1-0 | 10% | Tight grind; URU low block emerges after going behind, ESP manage the 1-0. |
| ESP 3-0 | 8% | Clean blowout; URU revolt reads as collapse. |
| URU 2-1 | 7% | Upset: "wounded force" galvanizes, Núñez finds form on counters, ESP over-rotates. |
| 2-2 Draw | 6% | Chaotic open game; both attacks fire, neither defends. |
| URU 1-0 | 4% | Maxi Araújo/Valverde set-piece + Muslera heroics + ESP profligacy. |
| Other | 11% | Lightning-delay chaos, red card, etc. |
Win Probability Summary
| Outcome | Probability | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Spain | 58% | Naive ~70% (Tier-1 tournament team full-strength vs gutted Tier-2) −5% ESP conservation (draw suffices, Pedri/Yamal mgmt, MD3) −7% must-win/revolt variance (inflates draw + upset tail) = 58%. |
| Draw | 25% | Baseline 22-30% (draw epidemic calibration); supported by ESP draw-suffices + URU desperation + lightning variance; capped by URU's fractured camp (a divided team rarely holds a clean draw). |
| Uruguay | 17% | "Wounded-force" galvanization + Núñez pace on counters + Valverde set-pieces; capped hard by revolt, De Arrascaeta OUT, Araújo OUT, Muslera age-decline. |

8. Who Scores
Spain
| Rank | Player | Position | Probability | Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mikel Oyarzabal | ST | 22% | MD2 MOTM brace; 22 G+A in last 15 Spain matches; plays 90; the #9 who isn't sub-rotated. Penalty taker if awarded. |
| 2 | Lamine Yamal | RW | 18% | Scored MD2 (first WC goal); mechanism now fixed. Discounted from ~25% for >30% sub risk (fitness/yellow mgmt by ~60-70'). |
| 3 | Nico Williams | LW | 12% | Fully fit, likely starting; stretches pitch, gets 1v1s vs URU's high line. |
| 4 | Dani Olmo | AM | 10% | #10 arriving late in box; MD2 starter. Sub candidate if ESP leads. |
| 5 | Rodri | DM | 8% | Single pivot, late runner, set-piece aerial presence. Plays 90. |
| — | Cubarsí / Laporte | CB | 5% | Finding 6 CB set-piece threat (rain raises variance). |
Uruguay
| Rank | Player | Position | Probability | Rationale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Federico Valverde | CM (c) | 18% | Sole creator with De Arrascaeta out; set-piece delivery; plays 90; long-shot threat. Captain in a chaos game — he's the bellwether. |
| 2 | Darwin Núñez | ST | 14% | Pace vs high line is URU's best route — but 0 goals in 2 WC matches, >40% sub risk, so discounted from a naive ~22%. |
| 3 | Maximiliano Araújo | LM/LB | 12% | MD2 hero (1G+1A+disallowed); URU's best attacker on form. |
| 4 | Agustín Canobbio | RW | 12% | In form; scored MD2 (45+5'). |
| 5 | Giménez / Cáceres | CB | 7% | Finding 6 CB set-piece from Valverde delivery — validated pattern (Al-Amri scored on URU MD1 from a corner). |
| — | Bentancur / own goal | CM / — | 6% | Late-runner / Muslera-error OG tail. |
9. Match Flow Projection
| Timeframe | Expected Pattern |
|---|---|
| 0-15' | URU press high (must-win, Bielsa "final"). ESP absorb + build from the back. Bellwether window: URU press intensity reveals the revolt's on-field reading. |
| 15-45' | ESP break the first press → Yamal/Williams 1v1s; URU transition counters via Núñez/Maxi Araújo. Set-pieces live for URU (Valverde). Most likely window for the first goal (ESP). |
| HT | If ESP lead → URU must open further → blowout risk rises (3-1+). If 0-0/level → tight finish, draw stays live. |
| 60-75' | URU legs fade (revolt fatigue + Bielsa training load + 1,566m mild). ESP fresh-leg subs (Ferran/Pino/Merino) exploit open shape. ESP likely Pedri sub (~70') to protect yellow status. |
| 75-90+' | Game state-dependent: ESP managing a lead (conservation) OR chasing a surprise equalizer. Lightning-delay variance tail. URU throw everything on (Pellistri/Sánchez). |
10. Methodology Notes
Findings applied:
- F11 (Physical/Environmental): Heat penalty does NOT fire (~20°C); altitude 1,566m = no visible tax; rain/open roof = minor non-directional; lightning = variance. F11 essentially neutralized.
- F12 / doc-5 Step 2 (Conservation): Applied ~3-5% to ESP (draw suffices, MD3, Pedri/Yamal mgmt) — de la Fuente is moderate, not Deschamps-grade; tournament-team escalation offsets. URU = 0% (must-win, Bielsa).
- F9/F13 (Attack gutted): Single-absence reshuffle, NOT gutting. URU lose main creator (De Arrascaeta) — that's −3 to −5pt for the creative axis, but the full 25-30pt gutting trigger requires 2+ of {main creator, main striker, GK}. Araújo (best CB) is OUT but is not in the trigger set; modeled as a separate defensive downgrade + revolt chemistry hit. Núñez (main striker) and Muslera (GK) both PLAY.
- F16 (Age-decline): Applied to Muslera (39, GK) — validated MD2 rushing error; extends age-decline to GKs. Caps URU's "hot-GK draw" upside.
- F17 (Sterile-domination screen): Run on the ball-dominant team (ESP). Does NOT fire — MD1 sterile crisis was caused by benched Yamal/Williams; MD2 fixed the mechanism (2.78 xG → 4G). Full-strength attack has a clear finishing mechanism.
- F22 (Blowout) + exclusion: ESP tournament team + URU open shape + Muslera error-prone → multi-goal margins (3-1, 3-0) weighted 12-15%. The exclusion (deep block + veteran hot GK) does NOT apply — URU press high, Muslera is not hot. So the blowout band stays live.
- F6 (CB set-piece): Live for both sides (Cubarsí/Laporte ESP; Giménez/Cáceres URU) — elevated on a rain-slicked pitch.
- F7 (Referee leniency + VAR): Elfath discounted to ~3.0 Y/gm; URU carries cards; ~10-15% pen chance; ≥1 VAR intervention ~25-30%.
- Tournament-team depth (Finding 22 refinement): ESP is a tournament team → their MD3 form should be read off MD2 (escalated), not MD1 (sterile).
- Revolt = temperament variable (doc-5 Step 5): Not a standalone finding, but a major executability downgrade for URU → caps URU upside, inflates draw/upset variance.
